The birth of Ava DuVernay occurred on the 24th day of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay started to discover her creative and artistic side as a child, thanks to Aunt Denise. The aunt was on during the night shift as a nurse so she could follow her passion for art literature and theater during the day. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to earn degrees in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. DuVernay began her career as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being given an assignment to watch the home and looking through the waste belonging to one of the jury. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied with journalism so she decided to move towards the publicity industry. DuVernay was hired right from college to be an intern at an unassuming studio. She started The DuVernay Agency, her company for public relations in 1999. Besides PR, the agency created several lifestyle networks such as Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
